We chose to establish a charitable remainder trust with Greene County Foundation because it will provide us with an income for the rest of our lives and provided good tax advantages at the time it was established. The remainder will then be applied to our designated purposes at Greene County Foundation.

A few years ago we were contemplating moving from our house in Bloomfield. We considered several options. Because the house was located close to Greene County Foundation, and since housing in the Bloomfield area is in short supply, I wondered whether Greene County Foundation might be interested.

Now, Greene County Foundation has a property they use for housing. I received a generous charitable deduction that I used in the year of my gift and have been able to carry over the unused portion in subsequent years. I received the satisfaction of helping Greene County Foundation in a meaningful way.

This year we felt it was an occasion to express gratitude for the excellent vision and mission of Greene County Foundation.

The opportunity for Val and me to receive an income for life enabled us to make a meaningful gift. We chose a Deferred Gift Annuity that begins payments to us in a few years. Deferring our income gave us a higher annuity rate and a larger charitable deduction. We also have the option of extending the time when payments begin and receiving an even higher rate. The gift-planning options of Greene County Foundation are plentiful, enough to meet almost every need. We recommend exploring the choices available to you.

My wife, Karen (deceased) and I made our gifts because she had deep feelings of loyalty and affection for Greene County Foundation. I have come to love Greene County Foundation for the role it played in her life and continues to play in mine.
